fix this by removing the lines asking for the source code of those functions
but only after adding a test in the distribution to detect this problem (by loading the doc)

Well, that's certainly a bug, which I will fix, perhaps by ensuring the file is
present in the install tree, but I wonder what accounts for me not ever seeing
it before.  There still must be something different ...
